Swedish wedding sites held up against the pressure

Published: 2010-06-22

Despite the media boost a majority of the web sites dedicated to the Swedish Crown Princess’s wedding managed to offer their visitors a good experience. Web Performance company Apica measured the response times for the major wedding sites and the result was a “pass”- 5.1 seconds on average.

Apica works with Web Performance, ie. to measure and improve response times for web sites. Too many concurrent visitors can often cause problems for a site. Therefore the Crown Princess’s wedding was an important test for many sites.

"Most of the sites had the largest number of visitors on Sunday when people were curious to see pictures and read comments. We also saw an increase in response times of about 20% vs. those on Friday. This is satisfactory, in our opinion, given that several sites doubled their web traffic. Previously, we have seen how big media events led many sites to hit a capacity wall. Our monitoring this time, show that many have now taken a big step forward which is pleasing. I hope and believe that this is the result of a prioritization of and a structured approach to Web performance management "says Apica’s CEO Sven Hammar.

The sites tested were:

Aftonbladet, Arbetarbladet, Ebba's blog (Swedish Radio), Expressen, Kungahuset.se, Svenska Dagbladet and SVT.
